If you've browsed our pins or landing pages, you've probably noticed that we're pretty specific about what we share. We don't do "top 50 random things from Amazon" roundups. We don't feature products just because they're popular. And we definitely don't include something just because it has a high commission rate.
So what do we look for? Here's our honest process.
It starts with real research.
Before we feature any product, we spend time understanding the category. What are people actually searching for? What problems are they trying to solve? If someone's looking for bathroom storage, are they dealing with a tiny rental bathroom or a spacious primary bath? The context matters.
We keep up with design trends — not to chase them, but to understand what's genuinely resonating with people right now. There's a difference between a fleeting TikTok trend and a real shift in how people want their homes to feel.
Our product checklist.
Every product we consider goes through an informal but consistent evaluation. Here's what we're looking at:
- Customer reviews (especially the critical ones). Five-star reviews are nice, but we learn more from the 3-star and 4-star reviews. That's where you find out about real durability, color accuracy, assembly difficulty, and sizing issues.
- Materials and construction. Is it solid wood or particle board with a veneer? Is the fabric actually linen or a poly blend marketed as "linen-like"? These details matter for longevity and value.
- Price relative to quality. We don't have a price ceiling — a $300 piece can be a great value if it's built to last. But a $40 item that looks and feels like $15? That's a skip.
- Return policy and seller reputation. We prioritize products with reasonable return windows. If a brand makes it hard to return something, that tells us they know people might be disappointed.
- How it looks in real spaces. Product photos in a studio are one thing. We look for customer photos, styling examples, and context shots that show how the piece actually looks in a real home. (See our current picks for examples.)
"If we wouldn't recommend it to a friend redecorating their apartment, we don't feature it. That's the bar."
What we skip (and why).
Most products we come across don't make the cut. Here are the most common reasons we pass:
- Inflated reviews. If a product has thousands of 5-star reviews but the written reviews are suspiciously generic or repetitive, we move on.
- Misleading photos. Heavy filtering, unrealistic room settings, or photos that clearly don't match the actual product.
- Fast fashion for homes. Ultra-cheap items designed to be replaced in months. We'd rather share one great throw blanket than five disposable ones.
- No real customer feedback. Brand new products with zero reviews can be great, but we wait until there's enough real-world feedback before featuring them.
How we handle affiliate links.
Let's be straightforward about this: we do earn commissions when you purchase through our links. That's how we keep Curated Haven running without ads, paywalls, or sponsored content.
But here's what's important: the commission doesn't influence what we feature. We pick the products first, then add the links. A product with a 1% commission gets the same consideration as one with a 10% commission. If the product is good, it makes the cut. If it's not, it doesn't. Full stop.
Our affiliate commitment:
We never feature a product solely for its commission rate. We never accept paid placements or sponsored features. Every product on Curated Haven earned its spot through our standard evaluation process.
We're always learning.
Our process isn't static. We pay attention to which products our audience engages with, and we take feedback seriously. If we feature something and later learn it has quality issues, we'll update or remove the recommendation.
We also evolve our taste and standards over time. As we learn more about different categories — materials science, manufacturing quality, design trends — our picks get sharper. That's the goal.
